Miami Lakes Cars for a Cure is a local car show held annually in order to benefit cancer research. The concept for the show began when a Miami Lakes local, Roberto Alonso passed away from a rare cancer.

Miami Lakes Cars for a Cure 2018

Miami Lakes Cars for a Cure Foundation’s sole purpose is to raise funds for cancer research. It is ran strictly by volunteers and all the performers at the show have donated their talents for the annual event. They have teamed up with The Miami Foundation and the University of Miami Sylvester Cancer Center to help those who are suffering, fight for those who we have lost and create awareness to the public.

Roberto Alonso was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, Neuroendocrine Carcinoid Cancer, May of 2012. He fought this horrid disease for 16 months, passing on September 26, 2013.

His will to live and survive has given inspiration to the organizers of the show to help others going through the same scenario. Roberto had a passion for antique cars and cars in general and he owned a beautiful 64 Chevelle in a cherry red, which he has left to his grandchildren.

The Miami Lakes Cars for a Cure car show has combined his love, thrill for cars and his fight to survive. Entrance to the show was $20/car and all these proceeds are donated for cancer research. Awards are given in a variety of classes. This show was a great experience to attend. I have never seen such a large gathering of such genuine car lovers, with such unique, pristine, or antique cars before.
